On Walking

My feet and Patrick’s.  Guess who wore the comfy running shoes and who wore the hiking boots?

Excerpts from Thich Nhat Hanh’s “How to Walk”.

“Every morning when I wake up and get dressed, I leave my hut and take a walk.  Usually the sky is dark and I walk gently, aware of nature all around me and the fading stars.  When I think of the Earth and my ability to walk on it, I think, ‘I’m going to go out into nature, enjoying everything beautiful, enjoying all it’s wonders.’  My heart is filled with joy.”

“Walking on this planet is a very wonderful thing to do.  When astronauts return to Earth, one of the things they’re most happy to do is take a walk.  Coming back to their home, they can enjoy the grasses, the plants, the flowers, the animals, the birds with each step.”

Is it just me or are the simple things the most profound?
